The event will be held at The Lyceum, 201 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA. The doors will open at 1:00 PM and some Ring 50 members will be selling magic items. (Because of space limitations, there will NOT be a full-blown swap meet at the same time. So this will just be sales by Ring 50 members).

Fun Times at the 2023 Annual Ring 179 Banquet

Steve Myers, Dick Kohlhafer, Mike Rose and Howard Katz patiently waiting for their crab cakes.

Mike Rose awards the Lou Meyer Trophy to Michael Worsham.

Our after dinner entertainer Tim Hall with Dick Kohlhafer. And a pair of mystery hands taking their photo!

Of course there was table-side magic.

A big THANKS to Jennifer Myers for sharing her banquet photos!

Tony Anastasi Passes

Tony was a longtime member and his  participation in the local magic clubs goes back decades. He was a kind man and always enjoyed contributing to the local magic scene. Funeral information will be posted when known.

The photo shows Tony (on the left) with world famous Milbourne Christopher from a magic event that took place in Baltimore in 1979.  Tony was an avid photographer and took 1000’s of photos of magic events over the years. But Tony always managed to get in a few photos himself! He will be greatly missed.

Our Dean of Ring 179 Joe Bruno Gets Around!

Others outside of Baltimore are recognizing Joe’s talents. Here is a link to a video by magician Ryan Pilling from Ottawa, Canada. In the video Ryan talks about finding hidden gems in back issues of The Linking Ring. His video is an hour long and he devotes the last 30 minutes to Joe Bruno and material from Joe’s many One Man Parades. The link starts half way through right when he starts talking about Joe.

Denny Haney Laid to Rest

We have received a note from Dawn (Denny’s daughter) that Denny Haney’s burial will be at Colon Lakeside Cemetery in Colon, Michigan on Friday August 9, 2019. This will coincide with the Abbott’s Magic 82nd Annual Get-Together that will be going on that weekend. Colon Lakeside Cemetery is famous for the many magicians that are buried there. A graveside ceremony will be performed that evening at approximately 9:30 PM.

If any of our Ring 179 members are attending the Abbott’s Magic Get-Together please consider attending Denny’s service, too.

Denny Haney (1945-2019)

Denny Haney passed peacefully in his sleep after a brief battle with cancer.

Denny was a proud American and a Vietnam Veteran having served four tours of duty stationed near the mountains in Pleiku. Upon his return to the US, after serving his country, he began his career as a professional magician. All through the 1980’s and early 90’s he was a very successful corporate entertainer.

He wanted to give back to the magic community so he took the money he earned on the road, and opened up a studio where magicians could come and learn, practice their craft, rehearse and exchange ideas.

A Broken Wand Ceremony was performed by Scott Alexander.

Ralph Fowler (1937-2018)
